Currently integrated into the urban and tourist development of Punta del Este, Punta Ballena is one of the most particular and beautiful places on the Uruguayan coast. The incomparable view of the bay of Maldonado and Portezuelo that can be appreciated from the Panoramic Route above the mountains, make this one of the few places in the world where enjoying a sunset is so pleasant. Its cliffs give the place a Mediterranean aspect and are home to the mythical 'Casa Pueblo'. Looking at Punta Ballena from afar, it is possible to understand the reason for its name. The mountain range on which it is found has a shape similar to the body of a dormant cetacean.
